Stories
The bird lovers were up with the lark as they gathered at 5am to join the event which was held to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity (22nd May) and designed to draw people's attention to the vast array of birds which inhabit the Quarry and surrounding land.   Led by local ornithologist, Bob Orton of the Loughborough RSPB group, participants were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of species such as peregrines, warblers and a woodpecker and also heard their first cuckoo of the year.   Delia Shannon, Biodiversity and Community Engagement Manager at Bardon Aggregates said: "Bardon Hill Quarry has a wonderfully diverse range of species at the site, and the International Day for Biological Diversity seemed a great opportunity to invite people along to learn about the wildlife here.   Bardon Aggregates is holding a variety of events across the UK in 2010 as partners of the International Year of Biodiversity and as part of the company's ongoing commitment to creating and improving wildlife habitats across its quarry sites.

There are 47 local Wildlife Trusts across the whole of the UK, the Isle of Man & Alderney. We are working for an environment rich in wildlife for everyone.
