Stories
Twelve of us gathered at 05.30 with the dawn chorus already in full swing a cold morning, but dry and still, ideal for birding. We were led by our local experts Peter Bromley and Phil Evans on a walk that took us on the cycle track alongside Wychall Reservoir in Kings Norton, south west Birmingham (UK) then on to "The Peafields", an area of old allotments and young oakwood. Retracing our steps we then walked alongside the River Rea through woodland, then over on to an area of meadowland leading to Merecroft Pool. It's truly exciting to see the Great Crested Grebe nesting on the pool again after several years' absence. Our total of 32 species heard or seen and most of them were seen was a record for our Dawn Chorus walks, and must show that our management regime is encouraging avian diversity.

There are 47 local Wildlife Trusts across the whole of the UK, the Isle of Man & Alderney. We are working for an environment rich in wildlife for everyone.
